Level 1 Health Navigation Fundamentals IN-PERSON COURSE


Health Navigation Fundamentals is designed to improve your basic patient navigation skills. This comprehensive course is an introductory “Level 1” training for navigators who want to gain skills and knowledge of the history of patient navigation, communication strategies, health promotion, motivational interviewing and professional boundaries.

This course includes online prework to complete before attending the three days in person.

Ideal for

Patient Navigators, Community Health Workers, Care Coordinators, Promoters de Salud.

What to Expect

You will gain access to the prework course several weeks before the in-person dates. You can work through this prework content at your own pace, but the prework is due prior to attending in-person.

During the live course, you will be guided through hands-on activities to build your skills and confidence in patient navigation. Lunch will be provided.

Course Access

You should receive an email by 5/15/25 and 6/15/25 for June and July offerings, respectively, from the course teaching assistant with instructions on accessing your course prework. When the online materials become available, you will be able to access them in Brightspace by using the credentials you used to request a seat. The prework is required before you attend the in-person course.

Successful Completion

To earn a Certificate of Completion, you must complete the following:

  • Attend all 3 in-person days
  • Complete 80% of assignments
  • Complete the post-course evaluation

  3. Assess patient strengths and barriers to care.
  4. Practice client assessment and linking to appropriate resources.
  5. Describe ways to maintain professional boundaries.
