SPF Application for Prevention Success Training (SAPST) ONLINE Course


The SPF Application for Prevention Success Training (SAPST) Online Course is a 5-week, online, remote course. You will be expected to complete online coursework throughout the duration of the course and to attend four facilitated live learning sessions, as listed below. After completing the course, participants will receive a certificate for 31 training hours (5 hours towards completion of the HealtheKnowledge Introductory module, and 26 hours towards completion of the online course). Participants must complete and attend the full 31-hour training to receive a certificate.

What to Expect

With our flipped-classroom approach, you will actively engage with course content on an individual basis, while also building valuable connections with a small group of peers during weekly live learning sessions. To achieve this, we ask that you participate in the live learning sessions by video. While we value collaboration, please join independently, even if your coworkers are taking the course.

This Course Will Take 5 Weeks to Complete

Week 1

  • The course opens and you can start working on assignments
  • Working on your own online you will complete:
    • Introduction module and all assignments
    • HealtheKnowledge module
    • Setting the Foundation: From Theory to Practice module and all assignments
  • The online assignments must be completed to receive the link for the first Zoom session

Week 2

  • Attend a facilitated live session held by Zoom - Live Learning Session #1
  • Working on your own online you will complete:
    • Intro to the SPF and Logic Model module and all assignments
    • Step 1: Assessment module and all assignments
    • Step 2: Capacity module and all assignments

Week 3

  • Attend a facilitated live session held by Zoom - Live Learning Session #2
  • Working on your own online you will complete:
    • Intro to the SPF and Logic Model module and all assignments 
    • Step 3: Planning module and all assignments 
    • Step 4: Implementation module and all assignments 

Week 4

  • Attend a facilitated live session held by Zoom - Live Learning Session #3 
  • Working on your own online you will complete:
    • Intro to the SPF and Logic Model module and all assignments 
    • Step 5: Evaluation module and all assignments 
    • Sustainability module and all assignments 

Week 5

  • Attend a facilitated live session held by Zoom - Live Learning Session #4 
  • In this final week, you can finish any assignments that you had not completed and ask the facilitator questions
  • Complete course evaluation

Weekly Online Learning Activities

Each week, you will have online content modules to complete, which include readings, videos, interactive slideshows, discussions, and assignments. These activities should be finished prior to each live learning session.

Course Access

Successful Completion

To earn a Certificate of Completion, you must complete the following:

  • Attend all 4 of the live sessions
  • Complete 80% of the required learning activities in Brightspace
  • Complete the post-course evaluation

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe risk and protective factors in multiple contexts.
  2. Summarize the Strategic Prevention Framework.
  3. Describe how to assess substance use problems, risk and protective factors, and community capacity.
  4. Describe criteria to select a problem, risk or protective factor, and intervention.
  5. Apply the 5 basic steps of a logic model.
  6. Explain different uses of evaluation results.
