Community Health Worker Fundamentals Online


A community health worker (CHW) is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of and/or has an unusually close understanding of the community served. In this course, you will be guided by our expert instructors on strategies to enhance your CHW skills. Topics include CHW scope of practice, how to respond to ethical challenges you may encounter on the job, inreach and outreach, presentation skills and community assessment and advocacy.

This 8-week virtual course will include both online coursework (reading, quizzes, assignments) as well as 2-hour Live Learning Sessions weekly via Zoom. Time commitment per week is about 3-4 hours.

What to Expect

This course is instructor-led with one live learning session (LLS) per week. You will complete weekly homework before attending each LLS. The live sessions will be interactive with both large and small group activities. We ask that you participate in the live learning sessions by video to connect with your peers.

8 Live Learning Sessions

Live Learning Sessions will be held every Tuesday at 10 AM - 12 PM MT, from April 29th to June 17th, 2025.

Successful Completion

To earn a Certificate of Completion, you must complete the following:

  • Attend 6 of 8 live learning sessions
  • Complete 80% of assignments
