Speak My Culture: Embracing Latino Culture in Maternal Health

Created in partnership with the Community Health Association of Mountain/Plains States, Speak My Culture is a comprehensive online training designed specifically for healthcare workers to deepen their understanding of the unique challenges faced by perinatal Latina mothers and their families.

This event aims to equip providers with culturally responsive strategies that honor Latino values such as personalismo, respeto, simpatía, familismo, and fatalismo. By emphasizing these core cultural concepts, participants will learn how to foster connections and build rapport that promote trust and communication with their Latino patients.

Attendees will explore cultural issues pertinent to maternal health topics, gaining insights into how to present educational information in a manner that resonates with Latino families and encourages adherence to health recommendations. This culturally informed approach will benefit providers with varying levels of language proficiency, enabling them to form meaningful connections with their patients and promote healthier outcomes for both mothers and their children.
