R for Health Sciences Bootcamp


This intensive bootcamp introduces R for professionals working in public health and other health sciences. In just four weeks, you will learn the basics of R syntax and data wrangling — manipulation, summaries, tables, and data visualization in R. No previous coding experience is required.

This online course will include video lectures, assignments, and a final project. The course has a dedicated Colorado School of Public Health instructor that will provide timely feedback and guidance as well as optional office hours.

What to Expect

Flexible schedule - The course will be available for 4 weeks. We will suggest a completion schedule, but you may complete the coursework anytime within the 4-week period for which you are registered. We anticipate that it will take about 20 hours of work to complete the coursework. However, this can vary based on individual aptitude.

Optional office hours – Office hours will be held via Zoom. The schedule will be posted in the course. You are not required to attend these to receive a certificate. They are an optional opportunity for you to meet with the instructor. You can join a Zoom test meeting to check your audio, webcam, and to locate other Zoom features.

Communication – You will receive confirmation of your registration and payment. On the course open date, you will receive an email letting you know that the course is open and that you can begin work. If you have questions or do not receive confirmation or the course open email, please contact lms.registration.rmphtc@ucdenver.edu.

Technology requirements – You will need a PC, Mac, or Linux system. Chrome books will not work.

Language – This course will be offered in English. Videos will be captioned and transcripts provided.

Course Access

The course materials and instructor will be available from June 1, 2026 through June 29, 2026. You will receive a confirmation email at the time of your registration and then another email when the course opens on June 1, 2026. Successful Completion

To earn a Certificate of Completion, you must complete the assignments and final project with a final score of 70% or higher. The certificate will be signed by the Dean of the Colorado School of Public Health and show the number of hours of work required for completion of the course.

  1. Compose original code in R to clean data, including creating new variables and addressing missing values.
  2. Develop publishable graphs and tables.
  3. Troubleshoot code errors and warnings.
  4. Apply skills to learn new methods needed for specific analyses.

Extension Policy

We understand that unforeseen circumstances may impact your ability to complete a course during the 4-week scheduled period. If you have completed at least half of the course work and need an extension, please communicate with the course instructor. We will accommodate up to a 2-week extension.
