Extreme Risk Protection Orders for Mental Health & Health Care Professionals


This course provides mental health and health care professionals an overview of Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs) in Colorado. The course is designed to help these professionals feel equipped and confident when considering whether to file an Extreme Risk Protection Order as a tool to prevent gun violence. Course modules will cover topics like how they work, how to identify potential risks in patients, how to navigate the filing process, and what to expect after filing.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand how Extreme Risk Protection Orders can be used as a potentially life-saving resource by mental health and health care professionals in Colorado to prevent gun violence.
  2. Learn the process of filing an Extreme Risk Protection Order, including how to locate, fill out, and submit the appropriate forms.
  3. Understand what happens after Extreme Risk Protection Order forms are filed, as well as after an ERPO is granted.

Approximately 1 hour.
