Cannabis Prevention Education Spring 2025 Community of Practice (CoP)


The Cannabis Prevention Education Spring 2025 Community of Practice (CoP) will take place from February – May 2025. This CoP will be a space for Prevention Professionals, Community Champions, Local Public Health Agencies (LPHA’s), and Youth-Organizations working with young people in the prevention space to delay the initiation of cannabis use among young people to come together for monthly 1-hour facilitated topics and discussions.

A stipend recognition of $75 will be given for participants who attend and participate in 3 of the 4 monthly discussions.

Ideal For

Prevention Professionals, Community Champions, Local Public Health Agencies (LPHA’s), Youth-Organizations working in prevention spaces to delay the initiation of cannabis use among young people.

Cost

FREE – closed to CO Prevention Professionals/Community Champions.

What to Expect

Participants should expect to participate in a monthly 1-hour learning and discussion space facilitated by the presenter of that month’s topic.

4 Learning Sessions

  • Thursday, February 6th (9:30 – 10:30 AM MT): Substance Use Prevention Practices from a Trusted Adult.
    Presented and facilitated by Kari Commerford, Gunnison County Juvenile Services Director for Gunnison County.
  • Thursday, March 6th (10:00 – 11:00 AM MT): Cannabis Retailers, Products, and Prevention.
    Presented and facilitated by José Barrón, Retail Cannabis Prevention & Education Program Manager at CDPHE.
  • Thursday, April 3rd (10:00 – 11:00 AM MT): Adolescent Substance Use Prevention at the State Level.
    Presented and facilitated by José  Barrón, Retail Cannabis Prevention & Education Program Manager at CPDHE.
  • Thursday, May 8th (10:00 – 11:00 AM MT): 2023 Healthy Kids Colorado Survey(HKCS) Data: Top Data Stories.
    Presented and facilitated by Em Fine, School and Youth Survey Manager at CDPHE.

Course Access

After registering for this opportunity a Zoom link and calendar hold to the monthly CoP topics will be shared out prior to the monthly discussion. This Zoom link and calendar hold will come from Beth Stewart, Senior Project Coordinator.

Successful Completion

If a participant attends and participates in 3 of the 4 monthly topics they will be eligible for a $75 stipend.

Learning Objectives

The community of practice will discuss:

  • different practices and strategies to build a trusting relationship with a young person.
  • the landscape and opportunities that cannabis retailers play in substance use prevention.
  • the adolescent substance use prevention landscape in CO.
  • 2023 HKCS data and prevention data stories.

Note: Each monthly topic also has its own set of learning objectives. These learning objectives and any participant handouts/resources to better support learning in the 1-hour monthly space will be communicated out prior to the monthly CoP by Beth Stewart.
