Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias


Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias affect memory, thinking, and daily functioning, making them a growing concern for public health. This training introduces the types and stages of ADRD, explores their impact on individuals and communities, and highlights why public health professionals play a key role in addressing them. It examines risk reduction, health disparities, and the influence of social and environmental factors. The course also offers strategies to raise awareness, support caregivers, and promote brain health through collaboration and regional initiatives.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the types, stages, and warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias(ADRD), and recognize it as a public health concern.
  2. Explore risk reduction strategies and the impact of social determinants of health (SDOH)and health disparities on priority populations throughout the life course.
  3. Apply knowledge of roles and responsibilities in ADRD education and advocacy to their work as public health professionals, integrating ADRD and brain health messaging into public health sectors.
  4. Collaborate effectively with communities and health systems to advocate for people living with ADRD and support their care partners and caregivers.
  5. Describe the Colorado ADRD State Plan and other initiatives within the Rocky Mountain Region aimed at addressing ADRD as a regional priority.
